Canada has some of the world's most spectacular national parks — and summer is the ideal time to visit most of them. From the Rocky Mountain parks to the dramatic coasts of Atlantic Canada, here are the best.
Rocky Mountain Parks
- Parc national de Banff — turquoise lakes, mountains, wildlife
- Jasper National Park — less crowded than Banff, dark sky preserve
- Yoho National Park — Emerald Lake and the Natural Bridge
- Kootenay National Park — hot springs and canyon scenery
Coastal Parks
- Pacific Rim National Park Reserve (BC) — old-growth rainforest meets Pacific surf
- Cape Breton Highlands (Nouvelle-Écosse) — the Cabot Trail, one of Canada's great drives
- Gros Morne National Park (Newfoundland) — UNESCO site, fjords and ancient geology
- Fundy National Park (New Brunswick) — world's highest tides
Getting There
For Rocky Mountain parks, fly to Calgary (YYC). For BC coastal parks, fly to Vancouver (YVR). For Atlantic parks, fly to Halifax (YHZ) or St. John's (YYT).
Tips
A Parks Canada Discovery Pass ($75 individual, $150 family) covers all national parks for 12 months — essential value for 2+ parks.
